Cowboy for a Cure Inc. has made Nashville Home!
2011 = 2013 Johnny Warnshuis rode two horses across the country. From Northern California to New York City, Johnny and his horses traveled 4,432 miles, coast to coast, covering seventeen states, earning Johnny and his horse, Sandy, a Northern Nevada mustang, a Guinness World Record. Johnny did it out of despair, but eventually for his mother, Sally, and others like her who suffered from a rare neurological immunodeficiency disorder, "Guillain-Barré" GBS, which has no known cause or known cure. With the help of people he met along the way, Cowboy for a Cure was formed and established in 2011 as a Non-Profit raising awareness of Guillain-Barré.
The ride took twenty months to complete, ending at Times Square, New York. The raising awareness of GBS continued and grew, adding Autism, JohnWayne Cancer, and Breast Cancer Foundations, as well as Vanderbilt Children's Hospital and St Jude's Children's Hospital to the list.
The campaign "Cowboy for a Cure" made its way back across the country by truck and trailer, this time continuing the mission, guest speaking, fundraising for a variety of charitable organizations and events. Johnny tells the"tales from the trail," stories of adventure and peril on horseback. He shares Sally's story, its likeness to others he's met along the way. The non-profit becomes an entity, no longer just a lonesome cowboy but an organization of many. Cowboy for a Cure is the old school, American vision of hard work, good manners, and doing the right thing, helping your friends, neighbors, and the community you're in, Church on Sundays.
